The aim of this project was to create a stunning setting for an existing Warren Evans ‘Sunday’ bed. You won’t believe how many times I have come across clients with this bed, and often their main challenge has been what bedside tables to put with it. Warren Evans sell matching wooden units, but often people want something different. However that is where the confusion can start as is can be difficult to put other wood finishes beside the stained wood finish of the bed. Also it has got a relatively low headboard so it really does cry out for some thoughtful treatment of the wall behind.
So in this case we veered away from wood altogether for the bedside tables – going for simple glass tables either side but instead picked up the wood colour of the bed with this fantastic Marimekko ‘Lumimarja’ wallpaper. The beauty of using a feature wallpaper behind the bed is that it gives impact in the room but while you are lying in bed you don’t see it. This means you can choose to have the rest of the room in a soft more restful colour to make sure the walls are not dazzling around you as you try to sleep!
Here are some ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos. To add more character and grandeur to the room we also re-instated a ceiling rose and replaced the pendant light with a chandelier. Some velvet cushions in fushia, teal and mustard and a deep grey bed throw completed the look.
