What is Cottagecore? The interiors trend explained - Podcast Show Notes S4 E2

This week in Season 4, Episode 2 of The DnA Home Interiors Podcast, Deirdre and I are discussing the interiors trend of Cottagecore.

Cottagecore is one of the biggest interior trends to come out of 2020 and is set to remain hugely popular this year. A trend that sees us return to days gone by and an idealistic rural life this trend is sure to have your home feeling like a countryside safe haven.

We talk about how it originated and whether Covid and lockdown have played a part in it becoming even more popular over the past year.

Deirdre grew up in the countryside, in Ballymote, Co. Sligo. I too have spent alot of time in the West of Ireland countryside and talk about aspects of refurbishing and staying in the Thatched Cottage in Co Galway.

So the subject of countryside and cottage interiors is one we are very passionate about as it is part of our heritage. What I love now is being able to mix elements of this with other styles. Perhaps bringing pieces of the cottagecore aesthetic to a more modern house for example.

An example of this I talk about is bobbin furniture, which I am becoming very fond of!

We also talk about patterns that fit into the cottagecore aesthetic, and you will hear us banter on about the blue and white crockery - neither of us could remember the name of it. Here it is and it’s called Willow Pattern. We were in agreement that pretty much every Irish home we knew had it, in Deirdre’s family’s case there were two sets, an older one for feeding the animals.

We talk about craft, creativity and how this links in to the cottagecore trend.

Also Deirdre says she often gets asked if cottagecore is similar to Scandi style. I’ve got some strong opinions on that…which leads us into a bit of Hygge talk too.

You can take a listen to the episode here, hope you enjoy!
