Installing a Swimming Pool at Home, with Jetform Pools - Podcast Show Notes S4 E7

John Hall, Construction Director of Jetform Pools is this week’s guest on The DnA of Home Interiors podcast. In this episode, Deirdre and I discuss installing a swimming pool in your home.

I met John on a project a few years ago, where I was designing the interiors of a swimming pool room in the basement of a family home in Barnet, North London. John was the swimming pool installer on the project.

One of my long term ambitions in life has been to have my own swimming pool…so I am very keen to find out how realistic a plan this might be in the future! Even if that never happens, I will remain very passionate and interested in swimming pool design - see my blog post on the subject here.

We chat to John about some of the reasons people are inspired to install a pool in their home, the considerations around indoors versus outdoors, the minimum space required and different pool types. Fibreglass, tiles concrete pools and I ask John about stainless steel pools like the Parliament Hill lido which I love.

We learn about counter current units, heating systems, moving floors and how much your basic installation would cost.

We also discuss running costs - and whether it’s realistic to have an unheated pool outdoors. We think about the Hampstead Ponds and the health benefits of cold water swimming. On this subject we talk about The Ponds film, which I thoroughly recommend watching by the way if you are a fan of swimming!

If you prefer a heated pool John talks us through options: air source heat pumps which are very efficient but all year round may need a boiler system.

Jetform Pools is a member of SPATA.

Last but not least, we ask John whether a swimming pool will add value to your home?
